Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) aims to end poverty, foster democratic governance, and strengthen inclusive institutions. This National UN Volunteer assignment supports the Strengthening Community Resilience within the Kalinago Territory (SCR-K) Project in Dominica. Funded by the Government of India, the project is implemented by UNDP in collaboration with the Government of Dominica and the Kalinago Council, focusing on indigenous economic development and sustainable tourism.
Job Purpose
The National UN Volunteer will provide crucial support to the Enterprise Development and Low Value Grants Programme within the SCR-K Project. This role involves coordinating beneficiary engagement, facilitating the smooth implementation of the grants programme, and assisting the project team in delivering technical assistance. The volunteer will play a key part in monitoring grant activities to ensure timely and effective project delivery within the Kalinago Territory, contributing directly to indigenous economic development and sustainable tourism initiatives.
Responsibilities
The role involves coordinating the Enterprise Development and Low Value Grants Programme, including outreach, sensitization, and information sessions for applicants. Responsibilities include managing grant applications, maintaining databases, and facilitating communication with applicants. The volunteer will also coordinate beneficiary assessments, mentoring sessions, and the implementation of Enterprise Improvement Plans, working closely with the Lead Technical Consultant. Monitoring grant-funded activities through field visits, tracking progress, and verifying deliverables is essential. Additionally, the role requires supporting stakeholder engagement, organizing meetings and workshops, and assisting with project communications, including documenting activities, collecting testimonials, and maintaining programme records. The volunteer will also support the development of success stories, case studies, and communication materials for project visibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with 2 years of relevant experience being desirable. This includes experience in project/programme coordination, community engagement, enterprise development, small business support, grant implementation, tourism development, and monitoring development projects. Experience working with indigenous communities or vulnerable populations is an asset.

Essential skills involve excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, strong organizational and coordination skills, the capacity to manage multiple tasks, build positive relationships, work independently and collaboratively, and maintain high levels of professionalism. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with databases or project tracking tools are also important.
