Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment supports the "BES-NET Phase II" initiative, co-implemented by UNDP and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in the Dominican Republic. The role is crucial for strengthening the integration of biodiversity values and ecosystem services into sustainable development decision-making. The volunteer will contribute to the technical, operational, and administrative follow-up of activities related to updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), preparing the Seventh National Biodiversity Report, and implementing the BES-NET Phase II initiative. This contribution is key to ensuring efficient and timely execution of planned activities and strengthening institutional capacities for biodiversity management and conservation in the country.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Biodiversity Coordinator, the volunteer will support project implementation and follow-up. This includes planning, organizing logistics, and coordinating technical aspects of meetings, workshops, and consultations for updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and preparing the Seventh National Biodiversity Report. The volunteer will track activity timelines, coordinate key stakeholders, and maintain updated documentation. They will act as a support focal point between UNDP and the Directorate of Biodiversity, facilitating inter-institutional coordination and following up on agreements. Responsibilities also include preparing meeting minutes and reports, supporting the technical and administrative follow-up of consultancies, ensuring effective communication with consultants and suppliers, and assisting with the validation, publication, and dissemination of biodiversity-related documents. Additionally, the volunteer will support the monitoring of project work plans, programmatic execution, and budget monitoring, as well as contribute to the systematization of technical information and administrative support for project activities.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience, with proven experience in the environmental sector. Experience working with international institutions, civil society, or government authorities is also required. Desirable experience includes project management with a results-based approach, virtual capacity-building activities, and information management through knowledge platforms or literature reviews.
