Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a UN specialized agency dedicated to combating hunger and promoting food security worldwide. Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment supports FAO's program implementation in Tunisia, focusing on sustainable agri-food systems, food security, climate change resilience, natural resource management, and inclusive rural development. The volunteer will assist in field activities, data collection and monitoring, reporting, organizing training events, and coordinating with local partners. The role aims to enhance the effectiveness of FAO's field operations, improve rural livelihoods, and strengthen the resilience and sustainability of agri-food systems. This position offers an opportunity to gain professional experience in agricultural project management, intervention monitoring, and collaboration with local development actors, supported by the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia to promote youth inclusion.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the FAO Tunisia Programme Officer in implementing program activities. Key responsibilities include:
1. Field Activities Support: Assist in planning and executing agricultural activities, conduct field visits to monitor progress and beneficiary needs, and provide basic technical support aligned with FAO guidelines.
2. Data Management: Collect, organize, verify, and manage field data from beneficiaries and partners to facilitate activity monitoring and progress measurement.
3. Reporting and Documentation: Contribute to preparing technical reports, summaries, and monitoring documents, and support project achievement documentation through information and testimonial collection.
4. Training and Event Support: Assist in the logistical and operational organization of training sessions, workshops, and technical meetings, including preparing materials and tracking participation.
5. Partner Coordination: Maintain regular communication with local stakeholders, including Regional Agricultural Development Directorates, farmers, professional organizations, and associations, to facilitate information flow and enhance community engagement.
Work Experience
A minimum of one month and up to one year of professional experience in agriculture, rural development, agricultural extension, agri-food systems, natural resource management, or related programs. Experience or skills in artificial intelligence are required. Experience in the development sector is an asset. Familiarity with the local agricultural context, particularly in Kairouan, Jendouba, and Medenine regions, is advantageous. Strong communication, reporting, interpersonal, and IT skills are essential.
