Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Tunisia coordinates UN system activities, aligning them with national priorities and fostering local capacity. It champions the UN Secretary-General's representation and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The RCO engages with government, civil society, and partners to address national challenges and promote the SDGs. This role is within the UN Information Centre (UNIC), promoting UN values and activities to the public and contributing to strategic communication.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer will support the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Tunisia, under the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO). The primary mission is to bolster the implementation of the UN's joint communication strategy, enhancing the visibility, coherence, and impact of inter-agency communication efforts. The role involves connecting the UN with citizens, particularly youth, and stakeholders through accessible, inclusive, and audience-appropriate communication content and initiatives. This position is funded by the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia as part of an initiative to enhance youth and disability inclusion from 2024-2026.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the National Information Officer, the UN Volunteer will contribute to the communication activities of the Resident Coordinator's Office and the UN System in Tunisia. Key responsibilities include:
Content Production: Drafting human interest stories, testimonials, articles, and other content highlighting the impact of UN programs. Assisting with press releases, speeches, key messages, and fact sheets. Producing or coordinating multimedia content like photos, short videos, infographics, and digital visuals.
Digital Communication & Campaigns: Contributing to the planning and execution of joint communication campaigns. Managing and animating joint digital platforms (website, social media, newsletters) by proposing and publishing relevant content. Conducting daily media and social media monitoring to identify topics of interest and prepare press reviews.
Event Support & Visibility: Supporting the organization of communication events, conferences, and awareness activities. Assisting with media coverage of the UN Resident Coordinator's activities and joint UN initiatives through content preparation, photography, and information gathering.
Monitoring & Coordination: Contributing to the monitoring of communication activities by collecting performance indicators and assisting in report preparation. Supporting the UN Communications Group (UNCG) and enhancing inter-agency coordination and collaboration.
Work Experience
Requires at least one month of relevant experience. Ideally, candidates should have at least one year of experience in communication, journalism, media relations, or digital communication. Proficiency in Arabic and French is required, with working knowledge of English being desirable. Experience with AI tools for communication and content creation, graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), and prior work with NGOs or media are considered assets.
