The ITH aims to meet UNOV/UNODC requirements and extend these robust solutions across UN Secretariat entities. This role is crucial for delivering advanced IT support and fostering sustainable technology adoption within the UN system.
Job Purpose
The Senior Software Development Specialist will be instrumental in the end-to-end lifecycle of the Global Finance Requests Portal and associated enterprise applications. This involves designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving these systems. The specialist will leverage deep expertise in software development and enterprise application management to ensure technology solutions effectively support critical business processes, meet operational demands, and contribute to achieving organizational objectives. The role demands a proactive approach to enhancing system functionality and performance.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for the full lifecycle of enterprise applications, including the Global Finance Requests Portal. Key duties involve designing and developing scalable, secure architectures using Java, Spring Boot, and PostgreSQL, adhering to ICT standards. This includes creating enterprise web applications, reusable components, and implementing business requirements. The role requires designing configurable workflow solutions for approvals and escalations, and developing secure RESTful APIs for integration with various enterprise systems (ERP, HR, Finance, LDAP, etc.), maintaining API documentation. Database development and optimization for PostgreSQL, along with implementing robust security measures using Spring Security, OAuth2, and JWT, are essential. The specialist will also manage containerized applications, support CI/CD pipelines, Linux deployments, and Git version control. Quality assurance through automated testing, code reviews, and defect resolution is critical. Maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior developers, and actively participating in Agile ceremonies are also key responsibilities. Continuous improvement of software architecture, development processes, and evaluation of emerging technologies, including AI, are expected.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of overall experience in software application development and deployment is required, with at least 10 years of expertise in Java. This includes a minimum of 1 year of progressive experience in enterprise software development, covering the entire lifecycle from design to support. Experience with Spring Framework/Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, RESTful APIs, system integration, security protocols, workflow solutions, Git, containerization, CI/CD, Linux, performance optimization, and Agile methodologies is essential. Additional experience with audit logging, reporting solutions, microservices, and automated testing is advantageous.
