AI Solutions Developer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), established in 1965, is the UN's global development network dedicated to poverty eradication, reducing inequalities, and building resilience. The Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) serves as a key knowledge and advisory center for Europe and Central Asia. The Innovation and Digital Team within IRH focuses on digital transformation and emerging technologies, supporting country offices with AI sandboxes, platform development, and AI adoption tools, with Uzbekistan being a priority country for digital economy and AI initiatives.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNDP Innovation and Digital Team's technical AI workstream, acting as a bridge between policy advice and practical implementation. The UN Volunteer will contribute to the design and deployment of AI solutions, including AI sandboxes and internal platforms, and assist in developing AI adoption tools for UNDP Country Offices in Europe and Central Asia. The assignment involves prototyping, technical reviews, and light engineering to translate digital transformation strategies into tangible systems, with a focus on supporting Uzbekistan's digital economy and AI agenda. The volunteer will play a key role in enabling the team to deliver innovative AI-driven solutions.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the Innovation and Digital Team's AI workstream under the supervision of the Team Leader and Digital Lead. Key duties include conducting technical reviews of AI solutions for feasibility and responsible AI considerations, developing AI prototypes and automation tools using Python and ML libraries, and performing light engineering tasks for existing team products. The role involves contributing to project documents, preparing technical training materials, and participating in technical exchanges with partner Country Offices. The volunteer will also support internal AI adoption efforts, experiment with agentic AI tools, and contribute to the regional Future of Work Academy. Additionally, the volunteer will assist Country Offices in defining their digital needs, scoping technical support, defining volunteer profiles, and drafting concept notes, providing technical accompaniment throughout implementation.
Work Experience
While no prior experience is strictly required, a demonstrated interest or experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or software development is beneficial. Proficiency in Python programming and familiarity with AI/ML libraries are assets. Experience with large language models, agentic AI frameworks, version control (Git), and cloud platforms is desirable. Understanding of responsible AI concepts and strong communication skills in English are important.
