Organizational Context

UNESCO is supporting Djibouti in assessing its readiness for ethical, inclusive, and responsible AI governance, in line with the Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. The RAM report will present key findings and policy recommendations. The volunteer's contribution will help produce a clear, coherent, and visually appealing institutional publication, supporting UNESCO's efforts towards effective institutions and responsible digital transformation, aligning with SDGs 16 and 9.

Job Purpose

UNESCO Djibouti seeks an experienced online graphic design volunteer to finalize the professional layout of a 76-page report on artificial intelligence. This publication will be launched at the National Forum on Artificial Intelligence in September 2026 and presented to the Head of State. The volunteer will work from a finalized Word manuscript and an existing template from UNESCO HQ, adapting and enhancing it to create a modern, coherent, and print-ready publication. This focused mission offers a chance to contribute to a high-visibility UNESCO publication on a critical contemporary technological and policy issue.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the UNESCO Djibouti Coordinator, the volunteer will apply and harmonize the UNESCO publication template across the 76-page report. This includes establishing clear visual hierarchy for headings, subheadings, and paragraphs; finalizing the formatting of figures, graphics, tables, and other visual elements; and ensuring consistency in footnotes, references, captions, and page numbering. The volunteer will also design and finalize the cover pages according to UNESCO's visual identity and provided template. A final visual quality check to correct layout inconsistencies is required, along with integrating consolidated feedback from the UNESCO team and preparing final files for printing. Deliverables include the fully laid-out report, finalized cover pages, harmonized document elements, a print-ready final version, and editable source files.

Work Experience

Proven experience in publication design, editorial layout, typography, or professional document design is required. Experience in laying out long reports, research publications, or institutional documents is necessary. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign or equivalent professional software is essential, along with strong skills in typography, spacing, alignment, visual hierarchy, and graphic consistency. Experience formatting figures, graphics, tables, notes, references, and page numbers is also needed.

Skills

Expertise in graphic design and publication layout is essential. Strong command of typography, visual hierarchy, and graphic consistency is required. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign or equivalent software is necessary. The ability to adapt and enhance existing templates while respecting institutional visual identity is key.
