Organizational Context
UNICEF operates in challenging environments globally to protect children's rights, focusing on survival, development, protection, and participation. In Thailand, UNICEF has partnered with the government since 1948 to advance child and adolescent well-being. The current mandate emphasizes ensuring children thrive, learn, are protected, and can participate in shaping their future. This assignment is part of a program to enhance youth resilience, employability, and civic engagement, fostering inclusive and sustainable systems through youth participation in policy and service design.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF Thailand's objective to progressively fulfill children's rights and enable their full potential. The assignment focuses on improving early childhood development, enhancing educational outcomes, increasing youth access to health and employability services, and empowering them to influence decisions for a sustainable society. The UNV will contribute to strengthening young people's resilience, well-being, and life skills by expanding platforms for their expression and engagement. This involves promoting active participation in designing and monitoring policies and services that affect their lives, thereby contributing to more inclusive and responsive systems.
Responsibilities
The UNV will lead the strategic interior renovation of the UNICEF Thailand country office, blending architectural heritage with modern functionality and brand identity. Key responsibilities include developing a visual concept aligned with UNICEF Branding Guidelines to translate the organization's identity into physical spaces, integrating storytelling and brand experience throughout public and executive areas. This involves designing an immersive visitor experience in the lobby, showcasing historical achievements, and refreshing common office areas. The role requires designing executive offices to reflect leadership while ensuring privacy and brand cohesion. Specific outputs include conducting heritage and spatial audits, archiving corporate history, analyzing visitor traffic, developing a spatial brand strategy and exhibition content matrix, establishing a sophisticated material palette, designing the lobby and executive spaces with appropriate finishes and lighting, and creating historically sensitive wayfinding signage. The UNV will also prepare procurement specifications and provide construction liaison support.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required in brand strategy, interior architecture, and corporate spatial design. Proven experience in renovating historic/heritage buildings and exhibition/museum design is essential. Proficiency in CAD or 3D visualization software is desirable. Experience in disability-friendly designs is also noted.
Skills
Required skills include creativity, planning and organizing, project management, and self-management. The role also requires adaptability and flexibility. Expertise in art, design, culture, communication, advocacy, public information, and community development is beneficial. UNICEF's core values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Trust, Accountability, and Sustainability (CRITAS) are fundamental.
