Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Brazil supports poverty eradication and inequality reduction through policy development, capacity building, and resilience strategies. UNDP Brazil partners with government, international institutions, and civil society to deliver technical assistance. The "BRA/24/008 - Accelerating SDGs in Rio de Janeiro - Agenda Rio 2030" project aims to implement strategic actions for sustainable development, focusing on planning, governance, and multi-sectoral engagement. A key component is the PISTA initiative, promoting socio-environmental and technological innovation in vulnerable communities.
Job Purpose
The Local Communication Assistant will support the PISTA project in Rio de Janeiro by strengthening communication between the project and community members. The role involves creating and disseminating accessible information, covering project activities through various media, and facilitating community engagement. The assistant will adapt technical information to local contexts, enhance visibility of actions, foster dialogue with local stakeholders, and build stronger connections between the project and participating territories. This position is crucial for ensuring effective communication, promoting community participation, and supporting the overall objectives of accelerating Sustainable Development Goals in vulnerable areas.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the UNV Communication and Transparency Specialist, the Local Communication Assistant will focus on enhancing communication between the PISTA project and community residents. Key responsibilities include producing and adapting informative content for digital and print channels, ensuring accessibility for the community and suitability for institutional partners. The role involves supporting the organization and promotion of project events and activities for residents and partners. Additionally, the assistant will facilitate active listening and gather community feedback to refine communication strategies. Documenting project activities through texts, photos, and videos will be essential for highlighting initiatives. The position also entails supporting communication flow between the team, community, and partners, monitoring communication channels, suggesting improvements, and assisting in crisis communication responses. Contributing content ideas for social media and documenting field activities are also part of the role.
Work Experience
One month of experience is required. Two years of relevant experience is desirable, particularly in social and cultural projects within communities or marginalized areas. Experience in community communication, social projects, or working in favela contexts is preferred. Familiarity with social media and popular applications used by residents and partners is important. Residency in a project target area (Cidade de Deus) is required.
Skills
Strategic thinking, systemic thinking, futures and foresight, collective intelligence design, and working with evidence and data are key competencies. Expertise areas include community development, project management, program development, strategy, logistics, procurement, and commodities.
