Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) promotes humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. In Tunisia, IOM supports national authorities and partners to leverage migration for inclusive development, focusing on diaspora engagement and regular migration pathways. The organization addresses root causes of irregular migration, such as climate change effects and youth marginalization, through its migration and development programs. This UN Volunteer assignment will bolster IOM Tunisia's migration and development initiatives, emphasizing institutional priorities like coordination, knowledge production, public authority engagement, and inter-sectoral collaboration.
Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment is hosted within IOM Tunisia's Migration and Development Unit, which implements integrated programs on diaspora engagement, labor mobility, youth employment, and climate action. Aligned with Swiss Cooperation priorities for decentralized UN Volunteer deployment and field presence, the role is based in southern Tunisia to ensure proximity to target communities and local actors. The Volunteer will support the territorial implementation of IOM's Migration and Development portfolio, focusing on strengthening local authority engagement and multi-actor coordination in regions where diaspora mobilization and climate change adaptation are key development priorities. The mission will contribute to implementing Tunisia's diaspora strategy, translating strategic orientations into local actions, particularly for diaspora members in their regions of origin.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support IOM's Migration and Development activities in southern Tunisia. Key responsibilities include:
1. **Implementation Support:** Assist in preparing, organizing, and monitoring workshops, meetings, and training sessions on migration and development linkages. Participate in coordinating activities related to diaspora engagement, youth entrepreneurship, and local development initiatives. Monitor regional priorities for integration into Migration and Development programs and attend relevant meetings, taking notes and following up on agreed actions.
2. **Diaspora Engagement & Entrepreneurship Support:** Contribute to identifying and documenting diaspora-supported enterprises, analyzing their needs and local support opportunities. Help create and update a directory of diaspora actors, local entrepreneurs, institutions, and partners. Participate in events to identify key stakeholders and collaboration opportunities for diaspora investment initiatives. Support the implementation of youth and diaspora entrepreneurship initiatives, including beneficiary follow-up visits and monitoring in-kind support distribution.
3. **Climate & Sustainable Development Initiatives:** Assist in organizing and monitoring climate action activities involving the diaspora, youth, and community actors. Identify and map local partners in climate change adaptation and sustainable development. Support engagement with women's cooperatives and local associations involved in environmental initiatives. Participate in youth activities related to climate action and support regional events promoting diaspora green investment.
4. **Coordination & Partnership Support:** Facilitate information flow between IOM units for better coordination in the southern region. Contribute to identifying new collaboration opportunities with local and regional actors.
5. **Monitoring, Documentation & Information Management:** Support the monitoring of Migration and Development activities by updating tracking tools. Assist in organizing contact lists, partner databases, and digital archiving systems. Support the use of digital tools for coordination, information sharing, and reporting. Participate in collecting, documenting, and archiving project information.
6. **Communication & Visibility Support:** Contribute to preparing and updating communication materials such as briefing notes, presentations, and activity reports. Support the creation of content highlighting project results and assist with document translation between Arabic, French, and English as needed.
7. **Administrative & Logistical Support:** Provide support for administrative follow-up of activities, including preparing meeting documents, organizing travel, and managing correspondence. Assist in preparing administrative files and systematically classifying project documents.
Work Experience
A minimum of one month and up to one year of professional experience at the national and/or international level is required. Experience or skills in artificial intelligence are also required. Experience in the development sector is an asset. Strong organizational and communication skills, with proven report writing abilities, are essential. Demonstrated ability to work professionally and effectively in a demanding environment, collaborate within a multicultural team, and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines is expected.
