Job Purpose
The Medical Assistant will support the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Pretoria, South Africa, under the supervision of the Sub-Regional Health Assessment Program Coordinator, Senior Medical Assistant, and Clinic Head. The role involves providing essential information and processing services to migrants regarding health assessments and other IOM services. The incumbent will contribute to the efficient operation of the MHAC, ensuring accurate data management, appointment scheduling, and communication, thereby supporting the overall health and well-being of migrants.
Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant will provide information to migrants regarding Health Assessment Programs and other IOM services. Responsibilities may include working in either the reception/data processing unit or the call centre, requiring flexibility. In the call centre, duties involve providing health assessment information via phone, registering migrants in the IOM database, scheduling appointments, communicating messages, preparing master lists, and maintaining daily statistics. In the reception and data entry unit, tasks include processing applicant data, verifying identity, entering biodata, capturing photos, printing forms, receiving and forwarding medical documents, packaging files for mobile missions, and transmitting medical documents to partners. Additionally, the role involves filing correspondence, checking and photocopying payment slips, and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of required experience and 2 years of relevant experience is needed. Experience in computer data entry, elaboration, and analysis, or in a busy call centre (preferably medical) is essential. Knowledge of customer care and medical terminology is beneficial. Previous secretarial, archival, NGO, or international organization experience is an advantage. Proficiency in Windows and MS Office is mandatory, with a typing speed of at least 60 words per minute.

The role requires strong communication skills, fast and accurate typing, and knowledge of data management principles. Competencies include inclusion, respect for diversity, integrity, transparency, professionalism, courage, and empathy. Core competencies involve teamwork, delivering results, knowledge management, accountability, and effective communication.
