The International Organization for Migration (IOM) promotes humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. In Tunisia, IOM supports national authorities and partners to leverage migration for inclusive development, focusing on diaspora engagement and regular migration pathways. The organization addresses root causes of irregular migration, such as climate change effects and youth marginalization, through its migration and development programs. This UN Volunteer assignment will bolster IOM Tunisia's migration and development initiatives, enhancing coordination, knowledge production, and collaboration with public authorities and thematic partners.
Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment is hosted within IOM Tunisia's Migration and Development Unit, which implements integrated programs on diaspora engagement, labor mobility, youth empowerment, and climate action. Aligned with Swiss Cooperation priorities for decentralized VNU deployment, the role is based in the Sfax region to ensure proximity to target communities and local actors. The Volunteer will contribute to the operational implementation of migration and development activities at the regional level, supporting local authorities, civil society, and private sector partners in the Sfax and Monastir governorates. The mission will focus on youth employability, socio-economic inclusion, and climate change adaptation, aiming to bring IOM's interventions closer to local realities and strengthen multi-stakeholder coordination and community impact.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support IOM's Migration and Development activities in Southern Tunisia, focusing on: 1. **Activity Implementation:** Assist in preparing, organizing, and monitoring workshops, meetings, and training sessions on migration and development linkages. Coordinate activities related to diaspora engagement, youth entrepreneurship, and local development initiatives. Monitor regional priorities for integration into programs and participate in relevant meetings, ensuring follow-up actions. 2. **Diaspora Engagement & Entrepreneurship:** Help identify and document diaspora-supported enterprises, analyzing their needs and local support opportunities. Support the creation and maintenance of a directory of diaspora actors, local entrepreneurs, and relevant institutions. Participate in events to identify key stakeholders and collaboration opportunities for diaspora investment. Assist in implementing initiatives for youth and diaspora entrepreneurship, including follow-up visits and monitoring support distribution. 3. **Climate & Sustainable Development:** Contribute to organizing and monitoring climate action activities involving the diaspora, youth, and communities. Map local partners in climate change adaptation and sustainable development. Support engagement with women's cooperatives and local associations on environmental initiatives. Assist in implementing youth-focused climate action activities and regional events promoting green diaspora investment. 4. **Coordination & Partnership:** Support coordination with public institutions, diaspora associations, community organizations, and private sector actors. Facilitate information flow between IOM units for better regional coordination. Identify new collaboration opportunities with local and regional actors. 5. **Monitoring & Information Management:** Support activity monitoring through updating dashboards and databases. Improve the organization of contact lists and digital archiving systems. Utilize digital tools for coordination, information sharing, and reporting. Collect, document, and archive project information and results. 6. **Communication & Visibility:** Contribute to preparing and updating communication materials, including briefs, presentations, and activity reports. Support the creation of content highlighting project results, such as success stories and testimonials. Assist with document translation between Arabic, French, and English. 7. **Administrative & Logistical Support:** Provide support for administrative follow-up, including meeting preparation, travel arrangements, and correspondence management. Assist in preparing administrative files and systematically classifying project documents. Propose improvements to work methods to enhance program impact.
Work Experience
A minimum of one month and up to one year of professional experience at the national and/or international level is required. Experience or skills in artificial intelligence are also required. Experience in the development sector is an asset. Strong organizational and communication skills, proven report writing abilities, and proficiency in MS Office are essential. Familiarity with database management tools and digital communication approaches is beneficial.
