Job Purpose
This assignment aims to support UN Women South Africa's programmes focused on gender equality and the prevention of violence against women and girls. The UN Volunteer will contribute to effective programme coordination, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and administrative support. The role offers an opportunity for a young professional to gain practical experience within the UN system, supporting programme activities and inter-agency coordination through the Gender Theme Group. Through mentorship and learning, the volunteer will develop competencies in programme management, coordination, communication, partnerships, and organizational administration.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support programme coordination and implementation by assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of gender equality and EVAW programmes, including activities, meetings, and field engagements. They will provide administrative support to the Programme Unit, managing logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements for meetings, events, and missions, including travel arrangements and drafting minutes. The role involves supporting monitoring, reporting, and results tracking by assisting with activity trackers, compiling programme information, and contributing to internal and donor reports. Additionally, the volunteer will support knowledge management and documentation by organizing programme files and documenting lessons learned and success stories. Communication and visibility support includes documenting activities and contributing to information dissemination. General administrative support encompasses managing programme operations, filing systems, and financial/administrative documentation.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, relevant experience of at least one year is desirable in areas such as gender equality, women's empowerment, ending violence against women/girls programmes, programme coordination, project administration, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, reporting, knowledge management, or administrative support.
Skills
Key competencies include awareness and sensitivity regarding gender issues, accountability, creative problem-solving, effective communication, inclusive collaboration, stakeholder engagement, integrity, professionalism, and teamwork. Technical skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project administration, report writing, meeting coordination, and knowledge management. Experience in community development, gender, and women's rights is also beneficial.
