Job Purpose
This assignment, hosted by UNDSS South Africa, offers a young professional practical experience in UN security coordination, programme administration, and inter-agency collaboration. The UN Volunteer will support the coordination of the Security Cell and Security Management Team (SMT) activities. Key contributions include assisting with security information management, meeting coordination, documentation, and field mission planning. Working under supervision, the volunteer will receive mentoring and on-the-job learning, strengthening skills in security coordination, stakeholder engagement, organizational planning, information management, and UN security management processes.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the coordination and administration of Security Cell and SMT meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, logistics, documentation, and action tracking. Responsibilities include providing secretariat support, maintaining records, and disseminating information. The role involves assisting in preparing security planning documents and operational support materials, and developing security awareness packages for UN personnel. The volunteer will collect and analyze security information for situational awareness and risk monitoring, and provide logistical support for field security missions. Additionally, the role includes monitoring the implementation of security recommendations, maintaining security coordination records, and contributing to knowledge management and reporting.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, 1 year of relevant experience is desirable in areas such as programme coordination, administrative support, organizational planning, security management, risk management, emergency preparedness, stakeholder engagement, information management, report writing, or working in multicultural environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong administrative, organizational, communication, and analytical skills are essential.
