Organizational Context
MONUSCO, established in 1999 under the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, supports the DRC government in protecting civilians and stabilizing the nation. This involves reducing threats from armed groups, combating violence, and fostering accountable state institutions. The mission aims to improve understanding of human rights and humanitarian law violations, informing policy and decision-making for security force vetting, operational planning, and advocacy efforts within the DRC.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer Supply Assistant will support the Chief, General Supply Unit a.i. in managing stores' supplies within MONUSCO. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely and efficient issuance of supplies to various sections and units based on authorized requisitions. The incumbent will monitor stock levels, conduct inventory, and assist in replenishment processes. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Receipt and Inspection Unit, participating in procurement processes, managing non-expendable property, and preparing inventory reports. This position contributes to the operational effectiveness of the mission by maintaining adequate supply levels and ensuring accountability for assets.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer Supply Assistant will manage the receipt and issuance of supplies based on authorized requisitions, ensuring timely distribution to requesting offices and units. Responsibilities include monitoring stock levels, conducting regular stock-taking, identifying discrepancies, and initiating replenishment. The role involves assisting in raising requisitions for services and items, coordinating with offices, and providing status updates. The incumbent will support the Receipt and Inspection Unit in receiving and inspecting vendor deliveries, processing internal reports, and issuing goods to end-users. Furthermore, the position entails participating in the acquisition process, drafting specifications, and assisting in technical evaluations. Inventory management of UN Non-Expendable Property, processing issue vouchers, and preparing write-off requests for damaged or obsolete property are key duties. The role also includes preparing various inventory reports, maintaining database accuracy, familiarizing new staff with procedures, and assisting in budget projections.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in inventory and supply management, property management, logistics, warehousing, procurement, or administrative services is required. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems like Umoja and working within a UN field mission or agency is desirable.
