Programme Support Associate: Community and Civil Society Coordination
Organizational Context
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) leads global efforts to end AIDS by 2030, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals. In South Africa, UNAIDS supports the national HIV response through policy engagement, advocacy, partnerships, and community mobilization. As part of the UN Country Team, UNAIDS promotes coordinated UN system action and strengthens community-led responses to improve health outcomes and advance social justice.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNAIDS South Africa's efforts to strengthen community engagement, advocacy, and inclusive participation in the national HIV response. The assignment provides an opportunity for a young professional to gain practical experience in community engagement, civil society coordination, and advocacy within the UN system. The UN Volunteer will support the coordination of community and civil society partners, contributing to stakeholder engagement, meeting coordination, documentation, reporting, and knowledge management. The role offers exposure to partnership development, advocacy, communication for development, and multi-stakeholder coordination, fostering competency development in these areas.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support community and civil society coordination by assisting in planning and organizing engagement with various partners, including civil society organizations and networks of people living with HIV. This includes organizing consultations, meetings, and collaborative activities to strengthen community participation and partnerships. The role also involves supporting UNCT internal coordination mechanisms for the HIV Joint Programme, facilitating information sharing, and documenting activities. Additionally, the volunteer will conduct research, collect and analyze data on HIV and related development issues, and support monitoring, reporting, and results tracking. Responsibilities extend to knowledge management, documentation of lessons learned, and providing general administrative support for office operations and programme activities.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, one year of relevant experience is desirable, particularly in areas such as HIV/AIDS, public health, community engagement, civil society coordination, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, programme support, advocacy, communications, knowledge management, reporting, or administrative support.
