Organizational Context
The Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in South Africa acts as the central coordination hub for the UN Country Team (UNCT). It promotes collaboration and strategic alignment across the UN system to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The RCO facilitates integrated planning, joint programming, and stakeholder engagement to ensure coordinated and effective development results.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in coordinating the UN Country Team's efforts to implement the UNSDCF and achieve the SDGs. The position requires strong administrative, coordination, and programme support to ensure effective planning, reporting, and stakeholder engagement across various coordination structures. The assignment offers a young professional valuable experience in UN coordination, inter-agency collaboration, strategic planning, and results-based management, contributing to evidence-based planning and partnerships that advance sustainable development in South Africa.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support joint planning processes for Cooperation Framework workplans and Results Group meetings. This includes assisting with the coordination of UNCT Coordination Groups by preparing meetings, developing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on actions. The role involves collecting information from UN agencies, maintaining coordination trackers, compiling reports, preparing presentations, and monitoring activity implementation. The volunteer will also support the creation of dashboards and analytical summaries for decision-making, and monitor the integration of cross-cutting priorities like gender equality and human rights. Additionally, the role assists with communication and coordination between UN agencies and external stakeholders, supports stakeholder mapping and partnership engagement, maintains organizational information systems, and contributes to initiatives related to digital transformation and data systems.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, relevant experience of at least one year is desirable in areas such as programme coordination, project administration, development programmes, stakeholder engagement, inter-agency coordination, monitoring and reporting, knowledge management, research, administrative support, event coordination, or communications. Experience with results-based management, SDG reporting, or data analysis is also beneficial.
