Coordination Support Associate
Organizational Context
The Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in South Africa acts as the central coordination hub for the UN Country Team (UNCT). It promotes collaboration and strategic alignment across the UN system to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The RCO facilitates integrated planning, joint programming, and partnerships among UN entities, government, and other stakeholders to deliver effective development results.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in South Africa by facilitating collaboration and coordination among UN agencies to advance the UNSDCF and SDGs. The assignment offers a young professional practical experience in UN coordination, contributing to planning, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and administrative functions. The UN Volunteer will gain exposure to results-based management, data-driven decision-making, policy coordination, and partnerships, specifically supporting UNCT coordination mechanisms and promoting the 'Leave No One Behind' principle across UN programming.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support joint planning processes for Cooperation Framework workplans and Results Group meetings. Key duties include assisting with the coordination of UNCT Coordination Groups by preparing meetings, developing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking actions. The role involves collecting information from UN agencies, maintaining coordination trackers, compiling reports, preparing presentations, and monitoring activity implementation for UNSDCF reporting. The volunteer will also support the preparation of dashboards and analytical summaries for decision-making, and monitor the integration of cross-cutting priorities like gender equality and human rights. Additionally, the role entails assisting with communication and coordination between UN agencies and external stakeholders, maintaining databases, and supporting stakeholder mapping and partnership engagement. Administrative tasks include maintaining filing systems, managing coordination records, and assisting with event logistics and procurement documentation. The volunteer will also support digital knowledge repositories and contribute to initiatives related to digital transformation and data systems.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but one year of relevant experience is desirable. This includes experience in programme coordination, project administration, development programmes, stakeholder engagement, partnerships, inter-agency coordination, monitoring and reporting, knowledge management, research, administrative support, event coordination, or communications. Experience with results-based management, SDG reporting, policy analysis, or data collection and analysis is also beneficial.
