Job Purpose
This assignment supports UNODC's Health and Development Programme in South Africa, contributing to national efforts to improve public health outcomes through strategic partnerships. The role is crucial for coordinating and implementing Result Group 2 of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, fostering inter-agency collaboration, information sharing, and joint programming. The UN Volunteer will gain practical experience in programme implementation and UN inter-agency coordination, working closely with UNODC, government counterparts, and development partners. Key contributions include programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management, while developing professional competencies through mentorship and learning.
Responsibilities
The Programme Support Associate will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of UNODC's Health and Development Programme, collaborating with government, partners, and UN agencies. This includes developing integrated approaches for crime prevention, harm reduction, and social inclusion, and assisting in organizing programme activities and ensuring timely delivery of outputs. The role involves supporting UNCT internal coordination mechanisms, particularly Results Group 2 under the UNSDCF, by preparing for and documenting meetings and strengthening inter-agency collaboration. Responsibilities also include conducting research, data collection, and analysis on health and development issues, and supporting programme monitoring, reporting, and results tracking. Furthermore, the associate will manage programme documentation, document lessons learned, and support the development of knowledge products. Stakeholder engagement, operational coordination, and communication support, including preparing visibility materials, are also key duties. General administrative support for programme operations is also required.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but one year of relevant experience is desirable. This includes demonstrated interest or experience in public health, health promotion, community health programs, HIV/TB/substance use prevention, health systems strengthening, programme implementation, monitoring, reporting, research, stakeholder engagement, or community development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, report writing, information management, research, data collection/analysis, communication, stakeholder coordination, and planning/organizational skills are essential.
