In Senegal, gender-based violence remains a significant challenge, impacting women's well-being and participation in social life. The Kaarangué project, a joint initiative with Global Affairs Canada, aims to accelerate efforts to reduce all forms of violence against women and girls, including through digital mapping of GBV.
Job Purpose
The Database Management Officer will support UN Women Senegal in managing and developing databases, particularly for mapping gender-based violence (GBV). This role involves ensuring the functionality, reliability, and security of databases, including planning and supervising data collection, entry, and verification. The officer will analyze data, respond to reporting requests, and facilitate data collection activities. A key aspect of the assignment is to provide training to UN Women staff on database management. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the country office has robust, up-to-date databases that support its efforts in combating violence against women and girls and achieving gender equality.
Responsibilities
The Database Management Officer will be responsible for the design, management, and training related to databases within the UN Women Senegal office, with a specific focus on GBV mapping. Key duties include managing the use, maintenance, and technical support of the office's databases, overseeing data collection, entry, and verification, and producing standard reports. The role involves analyzing data to respond to UN Women staff requests and facilitating additional data collection activities, including coordinating methodologies. The officer will be accountable for registration databases and supervising data entry and reporting in close collaboration with staff. Additionally, the position requires providing training to UN Women personnel on effective database management practices, ensuring the creation and maintenance of functional, reliable, and secure databases that accurately reflect GBV data and country office needs.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required. This includes experience in strategic planning, performance measurement, indicator selection, and quantitative/qualitative data collection. Proven experience in relational databases, database administration, and data management is essential. Desirable qualifications include experience with online databases (design and management), the ability to work with diverse teams, and strong analytical and organizational skills.
