Organizational Context

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the UN agency for sexual and reproductive health, aiming for a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA works to achieve universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, reduce maternal mortality, and improve the lives of adolescents, youth, and women. Madagascar is at a pivotal moment, with youth-led movements advocating for change. The government is focused on national refoundation, with a particular emphasis on youth participation and updating the National Youth Policy to be inclusive and responsive to diverse needs.

Job Purpose

This role supports the Ministry of Youth and Sports in updating the National Youth Policy, aligning with Madagascar's national refoundation efforts and the government's commitment to youth participation. The volunteer will contribute to technical cooperation and capacity-building activities, ensuring the policy reflects international human rights standards and best practices. This includes compiling data from consultations, coordinating online volunteers, and maintaining communication platforms to amplify key messages. The ultimate goal is to enhance the policy's inclusivity, equity, and territorial relevance, ensuring it addresses the specific needs of all young people in Madagascar and recognizes their role in national development.

Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of UNFPA and the direct guidance of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the UN Volunteer will support the update of the National Youth Policy. Key responsibilities include assisting the Ministry and partners in technical cooperation and capacity-building activities, ensuring alignment with international human rights norms and best practices in youth policy. The volunteer will coordinate approximately 1000 online volunteers, compiling data from consultations and surveys for policy revision. Additionally, they will maintain and update online platforms, contribute to public events, and collaborate with communication teams to disseminate key messages about the policy update. Any other related tasks as required will also be undertaken.

Work Experience

A minimum of 1 month of relevant experience is required. Candidates should possess a deep understanding of human rights and youth engagement, with experience in community engagement and writing. Creativity, rigor, and the ability to produce high-quality, structured, and visually appealing documents are essential. The ability to work independently and proactively in a multicultural environment is also necessary.
