Emergency Field Coordination Associate (HER Roster)

Organizational Context

UNICEF's core mission is to promote and protect the rights of every child. In Vietnam, UNICEF partners with the government and other organizations to ensure children are safe from climate and disaster risks, healthy, educated, and protected. The country faces increasing threats from climate change and natural disasters, disproportionately affecting vulnerable children. This role supports UNICEF's efforts to strengthen child-centered disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and climate resilience at the local level.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNICEF's emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in Vietnam, focusing on field coordination and operational support. The Emergency Field Coordination Associate will contribute to timely and child-centered humanitarian action by monitoring risks, coordinating with local authorities and partners, conducting rapid needs assessments, and tracking response implementation. The position aims to strengthen linkages between emergency preparedness, response, early recovery, disaster risk reduction, and climate resilience at the local level, ensuring that UNICEF's interventions are effective and reach the most vulnerable children and families.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Field Coordination Associate will provide operational support for UNICEF's emergency preparedness and response activities. Key responsibilities include: Emergency Preparedness: Monitoring disaster and climate risks, supporting preparedness planning, coordinating with provincial authorities and partners, and reporting on preparedness activities. Emergency Response: Assisting in rapid needs assessments, collecting and analyzing field information on emergency impacts, supporting child-centered assessments, and preparing inputs for response planning. Field Coordination and Liaison: Facilitating coordination between UNICEF teams, government counterparts, and humanitarian partners at the field level, identifying gaps, and supporting the organization of meetings and missions. Monitoring and Reporting: Tracking the implementation of emergency response activities, monitoring supply delivery and usage, identifying operational bottlenecks, and preparing regular field updates and documentation for situation reports and briefings. Learning and Documentation: Supporting the systematic documentation of emergency actions, consolidating field information for institutional memory, and contributing to after-action reviews and lessons learned exercises.

Work Experience

A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience in emergency preparedness, disaster risk reduction, climate change, public policy, social development, programme coordination, monitoring and evaluation, or data analysis is required. Experience in humanitarian response or field assessments is desirable. Strong analytical, coordination, and organizational skills are essential, along with proficiency in English and computer applications.
