The country faces increasing threats from typhoons, floods, and other natural hazards, disproportionately affecting vulnerable children. This role supports UNICEF's efforts to strengthen child-centered disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and climate-resilient essential services.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNICEF Viet Nam's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) emergency preparedness and response efforts for 2026-2027. The WASH Emergency Officer will contribute to enhancing operational readiness, risk analysis, early warning systems, emergency coordination, rapid assessments, preparedness tracking, documentation, and response support within the WASH sector. The assignment aims to ensure timely, principled, and child-centered humanitarian action, aligning with UNICEF's Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action. It will also strengthen the links between emergency response, early recovery, disaster risk reduction, and climate resilience programming, ensuring a comprehensive approach to child protection in emergencies.

Responsibilities

The WASH Emergency Officer will provide operational, coordination, information management, documentation, and capacity-building support for UNICEF Viet Nam's WASH emergency preparedness and response. Key responsibilities include: supporting emergency WASH assessments, response planning, and technical implementation; conducting rapid and post-disaster assessments and translating findings into priorities; providing technical support for response activities ensuring quality and alignment with UNICEF standards; documenting lessons learned and supporting After-Action Reviews. The role also involves coordinating WASH supply distribution and Cash Plus for WASH recovery, ensuring timely delivery and feedback mechanisms. Additionally, the officer will support monitoring, community engagement, and coordination for an inclusive and evidence-based response, conducting field visits, collecting disaggregated data, and engaging local authorities and communities to strengthen participation and accountability.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required in areas such as emergency preparedness, disaster risk reduction, WASH, climate change, or programme coordination. Experience in humanitarian response, field assessments, or coordination is desirable. Strong analytical, coordination, and organizational skills are essential, along with good computer proficiency. Fluency in English is required, and willingness to travel and deploy on short notice is necessary.
