Emergency Preparedness and Coordination Associate

The current country programme (2027-2031) emphasizes child-centred disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, anticipatory action, and climate-resilient services, addressing structural threats like typhoons, floods, and disease outbreaks that disproportionately affect vulnerable children.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNICEF Viet Nam's emergency preparedness and response efforts for 2026-2027, contributing to strengthened operational readiness, risk analysis, early warning systems, and coordination. The Associate will assist in developing and implementing preparedness plans, tracking actions, and supporting rapid assessments and response activities. The assignment aims to ensure timely, principled, and child-centred humanitarian action, aligning with UNICEF's Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action. It will also foster linkages between emergency response, early recovery, disaster risk reduction, and climate resilience programming, ensuring a comprehensive approach to protecting children in Viet Nam.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Preparedness and Coordination Associate provides operational, coordination, information management, documentation, and capacity-building support for UNICEF Viet Nam's emergency preparedness and response work. Key duties include monitoring and analysing disaster and climate risks, translating early warning information into preparedness actions, and supporting the development and updating of emergency plans, contact lists, and partner mapping. The role involves tracking preparedness actions across various sectors, facilitating information flow, and supporting training activities for staff and partners. In emergencies, the Associate assists in gathering and analysing impact data, supporting child-centred assessments, and providing operational support for response plan implementation. This includes maintaining updated contact lists and tracking tools, contributing to situation reports, and supporting early recovery needs. The role also focuses on documenting lessons learned and preparing inputs for after-action reviews to enhance future readiness and response capacity.

Work Experience

A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with 1 year of relevant professional, volunteer, or internship experience in emergency preparedness, disaster risk reduction, climate change, programme coordination, or data analysis. Experience in humanitarian response or field assessments is desirable. Strong analytical, coordination, and organizational skills are essential, along with computer proficiency and fluency in English.
