Organizational Context
The Community Centre for Integrated Development (CCID) in Cameroon is dedicated to advancing the rights of communities, women, girls, and young people. It focuses on strengthening community leaders and organizations to address the needs of indigenous populations. CCID champions resilient communities capable of promoting gender equality, empowering change agents, and ensuring health, education, and human rights for all, recognizing these as vital for social, environmental, and economic growth.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Freedom to Decide Movement (FDM), a coalition of youth-led organizations focused on advancing bodily autonomy through political education and campaigning. The assignment aims to develop a comprehensive founding documentation package, including a charter, electoral rules, and membership instruments. The goal is to create a robust governance framework that ensures member-driven leadership and operational effectiveness. The volunteer will contribute to establishing clear procedures and accessible documents, enabling the movement to function cohesively and achieve its objectives in advocating for young people's rights and well-being.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will contribute to developing the founding governance and membership documentation for the Freedom to Decide Movement. This includes refining and completing the Movement's founding charter, ensuring internal consistency and clear amendment provisions. Responsibilities involve developing electoral rules for the first steering committee election, ensuring adherence to chartered composition requirements, and producing terms of reference for committees and working groups. Additionally, the volunteer will develop a full membership pack, including application forms, admission workflows, registers, orientation materials, and review templates. A key task is producing plain-language versions of key documents and obligations for accessibility by small community groups, ensuring consistency and ease of use across all materials.
Work Experience
Experience or strong interest in law, governance, organizational development, or civil society administration is required for governance drafting. Experience in developing constitutions, charters, or bylaws is beneficial. For membership instruments, experience in organizational systems, membership management, or administrative design for small organizations is needed. Experience with plain-language writing and information design is also valuable. Previous work with feminist, youth-led, or community-based organizations is advantageous.
Skills
Strong writing and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and good written English are essential. Ability to work remotely, openness to feedback, and respect for deadlines are crucial. Sensitivity to issues affecting women, girls, young people, and marginalized communities, and commitment to rights-based, non-discriminatory, and do-no-harm approaches are required. Experience in drafting legal or governance documents, designing electoral procedures, or developing membership management systems is beneficial.
