Job Purpose
This online volunteering assignment supports UNFPA's emergency response in South Sudan. The volunteer will contribute to humanitarian needs assessments, situation analyses, and field reporting to inform evidence-based planning. Key contributions include assisting in coordinating program implementation with partners, tracking intervention progress, identifying bottlenecks, and supporting the preparation of donor and situation reports. The role also involves contributing to emergency preparedness, participating in inter-agency coordination forums, and ensuring quality assurance for field activities. The aim is to provide timely and coordinated support to humanitarian interventions, enhance coordination with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with UNFPA standards.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation and monitoring of UNFPA's emergency response activities in South Sudan, ensuring adherence to plans and standards. Contribute to needs assessments, situation analyses, and rapid field reporting to guide response planning. Assist in coordinating humanitarian program implementation with partners and other humanitarian actors. Track the progress of emergency interventions, identifying and flagging implementation bottlenecks, risks, and gaps for timely action. Support the preparation of donor reports, situation reports, briefs, and updates. Contribute to emergency preparedness initiatives, including contingency planning and risk analysis. Participate in inter-agency coordination forums (e.g., Health and Protection clusters) and follow up on action points. Monitor field activities and support quality assurance to ensure compliance with UNFPA technical standards and humanitarian principles. Assist with supply tracking for reproductive health and dignity kit distributions. Document lessons learned and best practices to strengthen institutional knowledge. Review work plan progress reports and provide recommendations. Support the integration of cross-cutting priorities such as gender equality, protection, localization, and accountability to affected populations into emergency interventions.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of experience in humanitarian programming, emergency response, or crisis operations, preferably with UN agencies, NGOs, or international organizations. Experience supporting program implementation, monitoring, and reporting in emergencies or fragile settings is essential. Knowledge of humanitarian coordination mechanisms, standards, and frameworks (e.g., cluster system, humanitarian program cycle) is necessary.
Skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure in fast-changing environments. Excellent interpersonal skills, with cultural and social sensitivity, enabling inclusive and collaborative work with diverse partners. Ability to work effectively in a challenging environment and a multicultural team. Solid computer literacy, including MS Office applications and database management. Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision and meet tight deadlines. Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Affinity with UNFPA's Humanitarian Action and UN values is beneficial.
