Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's emergency response in Aragua, Venezuela, following devastating earthquakes. The Specialist will contribute to integrated health and nutrition interventions in affected municipalities, ensuring effective emergency responses for maternal and child health. The position involves assessing needs, identifying service gaps, and proposing corrective actions. A key focus is strengthening health service delivery, supporting maternal and child care, and promoting breastfeeding and infant feeding practices in emergency contexts. The role also entails coordinating with local authorities and humanitarian partners to ensure effective implementation and reporting on health and nutrition activities.
Responsibilities
The UNV Health and Nutrition Specialist will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated health and nutrition interventions in earthquake-affected municipalities. This includes ensuring effective emergency responses for maternal and child health, coordinating with authorities and partners, and conducting field visits to assess needs and service gaps. The Specialist will support the strengthening of health service points, capacity building for local personnel and communities, and the promotion of maternal and child care, including breastfeeding. Responsibilities also cover implementing integrated health and nutrition packages, coordinating with humanitarian actors, monitoring service quality and coverage, and supporting data collection and analysis for decision-making. The role involves preparing technical reports and maintaining communication with state and municipal health authorities.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of overall experience and 5 years of relevant experience in health and nutrition. Demonstrated ability to technically coordinate with local authorities and community actors is essential. Experience in strengthening health personnel capacities, supporting maternal and child health services, and analyzing health data is required. Experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable.
