Job Purpose

This role supports UNICEF's emergency response in Falcón, Venezuela, following significant earthquakes. The Specialist will contribute to integrated health and nutrition interventions in affected municipalities, focusing on restoring essential services, preventing malnutrition, and ensuring continuity of maternal and child care. The position involves on-site assessment, coordination with local authorities and partners, capacity building, and monitoring of interventions to address critical health and nutrition gaps, particularly for vulnerable groups including children, pregnant, and lactating women in displacement contexts.

Responsibilities

The UNV Health and Nutrition Specialist will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated health and nutrition interventions in earthquake-affected areas. Key duties include ensuring effective emergency responses, coordinating with local authorities and partners for maternal and child health recovery, and conducting field visits to assess needs and service gaps. The role involves strengthening capacities of health personnel and community actors through training, promoting adequate maternal and child care, and supporting primary healthcare services. Responsibilities also include implementing emergency health and nutrition packages, coordinating with humanitarian actors, monitoring service quality and coverage, collecting and analyzing health data, and preparing regular reports. The Specialist will maintain communication with state and municipal health officials to facilitate information flow and identify needs.

Work Experience

Requires 3 years of overall experience and 5 years of relevant experience in health and nutrition. Demonstrated ability to technically coordinate with local authorities and community actors is essential. Experience in capacity building for health personnel and community members is required. Practical experience supporting maternal, neonatal, and child health services, nutrition, or essential health services is necessary. Skills in data analysis, reporting, and technical communication are also required. Experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable.
