Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's emergency response in Carabobo state, Venezuela, following significant earthquakes. The Specialist will contribute to integrated health and nutrition interventions in affected municipalities, focusing on restoring essential services, preventing malnutrition, and ensuring continuity of maternal and child care. The position involves field visits to assess needs, monitor interventions, and coordinate with local authorities and humanitarian partners to strengthen the health and nutrition response, particularly for vulnerable groups including pregnant and lactating women and children.
Responsibilities
The UNV Health and Nutrition Specialist will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated health and nutrition interventions in earthquake-affected municipalities. Key duties include ensuring effective emergency responses, coordinating with authorities and partners for maternal and child health recovery, and conducting field visits to identify needs and service gaps. The role involves strengthening capacities of local health personnel and community actors through training and technical support, promoting adequate maternal and child care, and supporting primary healthcare services. The Specialist will also contribute to implementing emergency health and nutrition packages, including immunization and malnutrition treatment, coordinate with humanitarian actors, monitor service quality, and support data collection and reporting for decision-making.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of overall experience and 5 years of relevant experience in health and nutrition. Demonstrated ability to coordinate technically with local authorities and community actors is essential. Experience in strengthening health personnel capacities, supporting maternal-neonatal and child health services, and analyzing health data is required. Experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable.
