The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), established in 1958, is one of the UN's five regional commissions. Job Purpose
This Online Volunteer assignment supports the ECA's Recruitment Services Unit in its Strategic Workforce Planning Initiative for the Subregional Office for North Africa (SRO-NA). The initiative aims to ensure job profiles align with organizational priorities, accurately reflect current duties, and support effective workforce planning and position management. The volunteer will assist in reviewing and analyzing existing job descriptions, contributing to a consolidated report with recommendations for updating job profiles. This role offers valuable exposure to UN human resources management, job design, workforce planning, and classification methodologies, facilitating future job classification exercises.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Recruitment Services Unit, the Online Volunteer will support the review of job profiles and the preparation of a consolidated classification report for the SRO-NA Strategic Workforce Planning Initiative. Key duties include reviewing existing job descriptions against current functions and organizational requirements, identifying those needing revision, and drafting updated versions using UN standards and Generic Job Profiles (GJPs). The volunteer will compile supporting documentation for job evaluation and classification, analyze the alignment of job profiles with the organizational structure and evolving needs, and consolidate findings into a final report. This report will include an inventory of reviewed job descriptions, draft revised profiles, supporting documentation, observations on alignment, and recommendations for updating job descriptions.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management or a related field is required. Experience in job classification, job evaluation, organizational design, or reviewing job descriptions and terms of reference is desirable. Familiarity with the United Nations Common System and its human resources policies and procedures is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in English (fluent) is required. Desirable skills include experience in job classification, job evaluation, organizational design, and reviewing job descriptions. Familiarity with UN human resources policies and procedures is also beneficial. The role requires analytical skills for reviewing and comparing job descriptions, drafting revised documents, and consolidating findings into a comprehensive report.
