Constitution d'un corpus en Lingala dans le cadre du projet ELIKYA 2
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports developing countries with advice and advocacy for aid. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, rapid digital transformation highlights the need for localized AI solutions. However, a lack of structured linguistic data in local languages, like Lingala, hinders inclusive technology development. The ELIKYA project aims to address this by building a Lingala linguistic corpus to train AI models.
Job Purpose
This role contributes to the ELIKYA project, which aims to develop AI solutions tailored to local realities in the Democratic Republic of Congo by creating a Lingala linguistic corpus. The project addresses the challenge of insufficient data in local languages, which limits the development of inclusive technologies. Volunteers will be mobilized in Kinshasa and Mbandaka to collect, structure, and validate linguistic data. This effort is crucial for training AI models to understand and process the Lingala language, thereby fostering technological advancement and inclusivity.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will participate in collecting Lingala linguistic data, including texts, expressions, dialogues, and audio recordings. They will contribute to transcribing and translating Lingala content, and verifying the linguistic quality of collected data. Responsibilities also include participating in data annotation and structuring activities, collaborating with technical teams to enhance corpus quality, and raising awareness within local communities about the ELIKYA project's importance. Volunteers will document their activities, produce regular reports, and attend training sessions on digital tools and data collection techniques.
Work Experience
While specific professional experience is not mandated, a background in data collection, transcription, or research is considered an asset. Volunteers should be comfortable using smartphones or computers and demonstrate rigor, organization, and attention to detail in their work. The role requires availability for the entire duration of the mission.
Skills
Key skills include a strong command of the Lingala language (fluent), working knowledge of French (desirable), and an interest in digital technology or artificial intelligence. Volunteers must be rigorous, organized, and attentive to detail. Proficiency in using smartphones and computers is also necessary for performing the assigned tasks effectively.
