UN Women is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and women's empowerment. Its Liaison Office in Addis Ababa interfaces with the African Union and UNECA, supporting regional policy, coordination, and partnerships for gender equality across Africa. This assignment is part of the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Programme (SIARP) 2.0, a collaborative effort with the African Union Commission, UN agencies, EU, RECs, and civil society to end violence against women and girls and advance SRHR in Africa.
Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment supports the establishment and operationalization of the Civil Society Regional Reference Group (CSRRG) for the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Programme (SIARP) 2.0. The role is central to strengthening civil society participation in programme governance, advocacy, and implementation. The UN Volunteer will facilitate engagement with diverse civil society stakeholders, build partnerships, support programme coordination, and ensure effective collaboration among UN Women, the African Union Commission, Regional Economic Communities, and civil society organizations. The aim is to amplify women's and girls' voices in regional decision-making and contribute to programme learning and policy influence.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the coordination and operationalization of the SIARP 2.0 Civil Society Regional Reference Group (CSRRG), including organizing meetings and consultations. Responsibilities include coordinating engagement with civil society organizations, women-led groups, feminist movements, and youth networks across Africa. The role involves supporting the implementation of civil society engagement, advocacy, accountability, and partnership activities, and facilitating communication among UN agencies, the African Union Commission, Regional Economic Communities, and other stakeholders. The volunteer will also assist in planning programme events, monitoring progress, preparing reports and documentation, and supporting knowledge management and communication efforts. Compliance with UN Women policies, including safeguarding and PSEA, will be ensured.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, including programme coordination, partnership management, advocacy, and reporting on donor-funded projects at the regional or international level. Experience in gender equality and ending violence against women and girls is essential. Strong experience in building partnerships with civil society organizations, women-led organizations, feminist networks, and youth groups is also required. Experience within the UN system or international organizations, and familiarity with African regional institutions, are desirable.
