Job Purpose

The Education Officer will support UNICEF's efforts in India to ensure children and adolescents, particularly the most vulnerable, have equitable access to quality learning and skills development opportunities within safe and inclusive environments. This role contributes to strengthening the National Education Policy (NEP) and the Samagra Shiksha programme, focusing on foundational learning and secondary education reforms. The incumbent will assist in accelerating progress, delivering scalable results, and enhancing the impact, inclusion, and quality of education programs. Key contributions include supporting evidence-based, child-centered policy and planning processes, improving curriculum relevance, teacher education, and integrating digital literacy and life skills.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer will support the Education programme by assisting in planning, implementation, and monitoring activities, preparing necessary documentation, and adhering to results-based management systems. This includes designing systems for programme and annual reviews with field partners and documenting lessons learned. The role involves collaborative work with colleagues and partners to address operational issues and prepare proposals. Additionally, the volunteer will support the development and implementation of knowledge management and information sharing strategies, document innovative approaches and best practices, and conduct research on cutting-edge practices for knowledge products. The position also requires promoting voluntary action by engaging with communities, understanding local volunteerism, and contributing to UNV publications and initiatives.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of professional experience at the national or international level in Education or Social Sciences programme planning and monitoring is required. Experience with equity issues related to education access and learning, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications are essential. Familiarity with database management and office technology is also needed. Experience within the UN or international development is considered an asset.
