UNV
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, working in approximately 170 countries to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and foster resilience. In Cameroon, UNDP prioritizes early recovery and stabilization, particularly for youth and women facing unemployment. This initiative addresses the critical issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), which remains widespread and underreported, exacerbated by ongoing humanitarian crises. The project aims to leverage digital platforms to combat GBV.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to harness the power of online UN Volunteers and influencers to create a coordinated, high-impact digital campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Cameroon. The initiative is part of the broader 'Safe Spaces, Strong Voices Against GBV Project,' which seeks to prevent, protect against, and empower individuals affected by GBV. The goal is to increase public awareness, challenge harmful norms, and drive nationwide engagement by utilizing digital platforms to create safe spaces for reporting and accessing support services, ultimately contributing to a reduction in GBV incidents and promoting gender equality.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will contribute to increasing public awareness on GBV, expanding digital reach and engagement, and producing high-quality digital content. This includes creating engaging materials such as graphics, short videos, blogs, or social media posts for advocacy and communication. They will support national and international campaigns, promote positive behavior change, and strengthen online community engagement. Responsibilities also involve maintaining respectful online communication and ethical use of digital platforms. A basic understanding of GBV, gender equality, or safeguarding principles is an asset, as are good writing and communication skills in English and/or French.
Work Experience
Experience using social media platforms for advocacy, communication, awareness raising, or public engagement is required. The ability to create engaging digital content, including graphics, short videos, blogs, or social media posts, is essential. Knowledge of digital communication tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Express, Meta Business Suite, or Hootsuite is considered an advantage but not mandatory.
Skills
Key competencies include integrity, professionalism, respect for diversity, accountability, teamwork, effective communication, creativity, innovation, adaptability, and results orientation. Specific skills required are digital communication, online advocacy, social media engagement, campaign promotion, content creation, and storytelling. Digital literacy, online community engagement, and ethical online conduct are also important. A passion for gender equality and ending violence against women and girls is highly valued.
