Translation of the Training Documents from English into Ukrainian language
Organizational Context
The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) was established in 1968 to assist organizations in developing and implementing crime prevention and criminal justice policies. UNICRI focuses on action-oriented analysis and technical assistance, with current priorities in justice reform, financial and emerging crimes, and security governance. As part of the EU's CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence Initiative, UNICRI develops capacity-building and training packages to enhance capabilities in CBRN crimes.
Job Purpose
This online volunteer assignment supports the 'Building a Case for Prosecution' training initiative in Ukraine. The primary purpose is to ensure effective knowledge dissemination and enhance capacity-building efforts by accurately translating training presentations and accompanying notes from English into Ukrainian. The successful completion of this task will directly contribute to improving investigative, prosecutorial, and adjudicative capabilities within the region concerning CBRN crimes. The assignment is expected to commence around September 7, 2026, and is a written translation task.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will be responsible for translating and proofreading training materials from English to Ukrainian. This includes approximately 45 PowerPoint presentations (max 20 slides each), about 30 A4 pages of explanatory notes, case studies, guides, and manuals, and around 25 A4 pages of handouts and other training documents. The role also involves ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and clarity of all translated content, adapting materials to new templates and formats, and verifying that the original meaning and cultural appropriateness are maintained. The volunteer will cross-check translations against original documents, format the final deliverables according to the original design, and submit them in both PDF and editable Word formats. Collaboration with the UNICRI team and consultants for feedback and regular communication on progress are also key responsibilities.
Work Experience
Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Ukrainian is required. A strong ability to accurately translate technical and complex content is essential. Familiarity with presentation software like PowerPoint and general document handling is necessary. Experience in translation and interpretation, along with knowledge of legal vocabulary, is desirable.
