Programme Analyst Coordination and Women’s Economic Empowerment
Organizational Context
UN Women is the UN entity for gender equality and women's empowerment, working globally to accelerate progress on their needs. In Uganda, UN Women co-chairs the Human Rights, Gender Equality, and Leave No One Behind Group, advising on gender equality within the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The Moroto sub-office coordinates UN Women's presence in the Karamoja region, engaging with local government, UN agencies, and civil society to advance gender mainstreaming and women's economic empowerment.
Job Purpose
The Programme Analyst will support effective coordination of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (GEWE) priorities at the sub-national level in the Karamoja region, contributing to UN Women Uganda's Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio. This role involves collaborating with government, donors, private sector, and civil society to ensure successful programme implementation. The position aims to strengthen GEWE mainstreaming in policy and programming, support inter-agency coordination, and contribute to UN Women's mandate of eliminating discrimination and achieving equality for women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development.
Responsibilities
Contribute to inter-agency coordination for UN Women in the Karamoja region and on Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE), ensuring programme coherence with partners. Provide technical support to the Country Office on coordination activities, attend meetings, and represent UN Women in relevant groups. Assist in coordinating District Local Government priorities for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (GEWE), ensuring its inclusion in stakeholder meetings. Support gender coordination structures at macro and micro levels, including institutional capacity development. Provide technical assistance and capacity building to partners on gender mainstreaming and integrating GEWE into strategic planning. Support the design, implementation, and management of WEE programmes, including proposal development, drafting strategy documents, and coordinating reports. Monitor and report on GEWE initiatives in the Karamoja region and the WEE portfolio, developing unified monitoring systems and contributing to inter-agency reporting processes. Help build partnerships and support resource mobilization strategies by drafting documentation on donors and potential cooperation opportunities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating development projects is required. Technical experience in Women's Economic Empowerment is essential. Experience coordinating with government agencies and/or donors is an asset. Proficiency in computer and office software packages is necessary. Experience with ERP systems like Oracle Cloud and working within the UN system are desirable.
