Programme Support Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) aims to enhance global peace, security, human rights, and development by combating drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism. The Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), now part of the Border Management Branch, supports Member States in building law enforcement capacity and fostering regional and international cooperation against organized crime in the maritime domain. This role is within the GMCP's Indian Ocean East team, supporting UNODC's Asia portfolio.
Job Purpose
The Programme Support Officer will be based in Malé, Maldives, under the UNODC Regional Office for South Asia. Reporting to the Regional Programme Coordinator, the incumbent will assist in the implementation of UNODC's project cycle management and project execution guidelines. This involves working collaboratively with regional and UNODC colleagues to ensure synergy, coordination of activities, and effective partnerships. The role is crucial for supporting the GMCP's mandate to counter maritime crime and build capacity among maritime law enforcement agencies in the region.
Responsibilities
The Programme Support Officer will assist the Regional Programme Coordinator and the Maldives team in identifying technical assistance needs and developing strategies to strengthen maritime law enforcement and legal reforms. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of GMCP activities in the Maldives, assisting with monitoring and evaluation, and preparing summary reports. The role involves contributing to regional capacity-building programs and joint exercises, drafting various written outputs on maritime crime issues, and improving communication among collaborating regional organizations to enhance maritime security. Additionally, the officer will provide technical support for meetings and workshops, assist with field missions, and contribute to policy coordination and evaluation functions.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in project management or implementation, preferably in maritime security, is required. Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, organizing regional/international events, and strong oral/written communication skills are essential. Experience in the Indian Ocean East region, accuracy in document production, interpersonal skills, adaptability, and computer literacy are desirable.
