Organizational Context
The World Food Programme (WFP), established in 1961, is the leading UN agency addressing food emergencies and global hunger. Operating in over 120 countries, WFP provides life-saving food aid and supports communities in overcoming challenges to build better futures. This role supports the WFP Programme Unit in Armenia, focusing on enhancing understanding and capacity regarding biodiversity, school feeding, food security, and education.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to strengthen knowledge and awareness on the critical linkages between biodiversity, school feeding, food security, and education in preparation for COP17 in Armenia. The Online Volunteer will develop essential knowledge and advocacy materials, design and deliver training sessions for WFP staff, government counterparts, and partners. Furthermore, the role will promote knowledge sharing on innovative home-grown school feeding approaches that integrate biodiversity. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness, foster collaboration, and highlight best practices that support sustainable food systems and resilience, contributing to the overall success of the COP17 preparations.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will support COP17 preparations by developing knowledge products, briefs, and communication materials that connect biodiversity with school feeding, food security, and education. This includes creating learning materials based on best practices in transformative home-grown school feeding approaches that integrate biodiversity and education, tailored to regional contexts. The volunteer will design and deliver training sessions for WFP staff, partners, and government counterparts on biodiversity's relevance to school feeding and food security. Additionally, the role involves facilitating online workshops and co-creation sessions for teams presenting the School Feeding Programme at COP17. Specific outputs include developing presentations and a factsheet for various stakeholders.
Work Experience
The role requires strong knowledge of biodiversity, sustainable food systems, and school feeding. Experience in content development, training delivery, and advocacy is essential. Previous engagement with UN agencies, NGOs, or government institutions is considered an asset. Strong analytical and writing skills, coupled with the ability to translate technical concepts into accessible content, are also important.
