Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, is dedicated to humane and orderly migration benefiting migrants and society. IOM supports global migration dynamics, advises on policy, and builds capacity for managing mobility. The 'Integrated and Scalable Approach to the Mixed Migration Flows by the Borders of Türkiye - Phase I Project' aims to enhance Türkiye's border management and migrant processing, with IOM as the implementing partner and the Ministry of Interior's Presidency of Migration Management (PMM) as the main beneficiary.

Job Purpose

This role supports the 'Integrated and Scalable Approach to the Mixed Migration Flows by the Borders of Türkiye - Phase I Project,' contributing to the enhancement of border management and the processing of vulnerable migrants. The UN Volunteer will provide crucial interpretation services at Antalya Airport, facilitating accurate and impartial communication between the Presidency of Migration Management (PMM) officials and assisted beneficiaries. This role is vital for ensuring effective operations and support within the project's framework, working under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate and in close coordination with PMM departments.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer will provide interpretation services to the Presidency of Migration Management (PMM) and beneficiaries, ensuring accurate, complete, and impartial communication. This includes maintaining strict neutrality, refraining from altering messages or adding personal opinions, and delivering interpretations professionally, neutrally, and confidentially. The role also involves assisting with on-demand written translations between Russian and Turkish. Adherence to IOM Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreements is essential, requiring a professional appearance and a respectful, migrant-friendly attitude. The incumbent must ensure the privacy and confidentiality of beneficiary information, promptly report challenges, suggest improvements, and perform additional assigned tasks as needed. A flexible work schedule, potentially including extended hours, night shifts, and weekend work, is expected.

Work Experience

Requires 3 years of relevant professional experience. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, or victims of trafficking is advantageous. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations or in multi-cultural settings is also beneficial. Proven analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills, along with good computer literacy, are expected.

Proficiency in Russian and Turkish (fluent) is required. Key competencies include teamwork, delivering results, managing and sharing knowledge, accountability, and communication.
