Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) promotes humane and orderly migration, supporting governments and migrants globally. In the Caribbean, migration is integral to regional identity and development, facing challenges like climate change, demographic shifts, and labor shortages. IOM's Caribbean office addresses these issues, particularly in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) vulnerable to climate impacts and experiencing labor gaps due to outward migration.

Job Purpose

This role supports the IOM Trinidad and Tobago office by researching viable funding opportunities and developing project concepts. The focus areas include migrant integration (financial, labor market), social cohesion, peacebuilding, and enhancing support for combating Trafficking in Persons (TIP), with specific attention to vulnerable groups like women, girls, and persons with disabilities. The position also involves assisting government departments in leveraging the 2026 Migrant Registration Framework and the upcoming National Population & Housing Census to advance migration management and development goals.

Responsibilities

The volunteer will identify relevant funding opportunities, grants, and calls for proposals from diverse sources that align with IOM's strategic objectives. Responsibilities include drafting and refining concept notes and executive summaries, ensuring they are clear, structured, and compelling, and incorporate relevant frameworks such as SDGs and IOM's Strategic Response Framework. The role also involves gathering and synthesizing socio-economic data, migration trends, and local context to strengthen project proposals. Ensuring adherence to donor guidelines, formatting requirements, and strategic priorities is crucial. The volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the IOM Trinidad and Tobago Officer in Charge or their designate.

Work Experience

Previous experience in grant writing, proposal development, or fundraising for non-profit or international organizations is essential. This experience should demonstrate a proven ability to secure funding and articulate project needs effectively. Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications is also required.

Skills

Required skills include excellent written and verbal communication in English, strong research and analytical abilities, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. The volunteer must demonstrate a commitment to IOM's mandate, possess strong cultural sensitivity, be able to meet strict deadlines, and exhibit a collaborative mindset to effectively contribute to project development and implementation.
