The translator will contribute to making this crucial environmental and human rights information accessible globally, supporting good governance and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
Translate the content of the "Introductory Course on SDG 16 and access rights, the Aarhus Convention, and the Escazú Agreement" into one of the official UN languages (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian). Ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translation of legal and environmental terminology. Maintain the intended meaning and tone of the original English content, adhering to institutional translation standards. Proofread translated materials to guarantee quality and consistency. Collaborate with the UNEP team to ensure the translated course effectively communicates its learning objectives regarding environmental governance and international agreements.
Work Experience
Prior experience in translating and proofreading institutional documents is required. Familiarity with legal vocabulary is essential. Experience in translating official UN documents and understanding appropriate tone is advantageous. Fluency in Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian (preferably native) and an advanced level of English are necessary.
Skills
Advanced proficiency in English and at least one other UN official language (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian). Strong translation and proofreading skills. Familiarity with legal terminology and environmental law concepts. Ability to work under tight deadlines. Interest in the work of UN agencies and sustainable development.
