Child Rights, Climate Resilience and Environmental Protection Associate

Organizational Context

UNICEF Viet Nam operates as part of the UN system, dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of every child, especially the most vulnerable. Since 1975, UNICEF has partnered with the Vietnamese government to ensure children are safe from climate and environmental threats, healthy, educated, and protected. The current Country Programme (2027-2031) emphasizes child-centered climate, disaster, and environmental action, addressing structural threats like climate change, disasters, and environmental degradation that increasingly impact children's rights and well-being.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNICEF Viet Nam's efforts to advance child-centered climate, disaster, and environmental action, aligning with the 2027-2031 Country Programme. The assignment focuses on strengthening child-sensitive policies, improving disaster preparedness, integrating climate resilience into essential services, reducing environmental health risks, and promoting child participation in decision-making. The UN Volunteer will contribute to evidence generation, knowledge management, programme support, monitoring, and partnership engagement, working collaboratively with government, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector to safeguard children's rights in the face of climate change and environmental challenges.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer will support knowledge management by collecting, organizing, and filing relevant documents and learning materials, and assisting in preparing knowledge products like policy briefs and evidence summaries. Responsibilities include supporting programme development by drafting concept notes and proposals, and contributing to the analysis of climate resilience and climate-smart social services portfolios, ensuring child rights and equity are integrated. The role involves supporting national and local implementation through capacity-building initiatives for government counterparts, service providers, communities, and youth. Additionally, the volunteer will support partnership and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including emergency preparedness and response coordination, and facilitate child and youth participation and advocacy by supporting consultations and integrating their views into programme documents and policy processes.

Work Experience

No prior experience is required, but a demonstrated interest or experience in climate change adaptation, resilience, disaster risk reduction, climate impacts on children, child rights in climate contexts, climate-smart social services, or child rights related to climate resilience and environmental protection is beneficial. Skills in synthesizing complex information, data visualization, and excellent writing abilities are also valued.
