Organizational Context

The United Nations in Cambodia aims to promote peace, eradicate poverty, and protect human rights, aligning its development efforts with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) leads and coordinates the UN system's work, supporting the UN Cooperation Framework. As Cambodia approaches Least Developed Country graduation by 2029, the RCO's role is crucial in strengthening governance, promoting inclusive dialogue, and ensuring a smooth transition by fostering peace, human rights, and sustainable development.

Job Purpose

This role supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Cambodia to advance key UN priorities, including peacebuilding, social inclusion, and human rights, particularly as the country prepares for graduation from Least Developed Country status. The UN Volunteer will contribute to data collection and analysis, monitor political and human rights developments, and promote a human rights-based approach to development. The position involves supporting stakeholder mapping and engagement, facilitating dialogue and coordination with government and civil society partners, and contributing to knowledge products. The aim is to ensure coherent and effective UN system delivery of the Cooperation Framework, supporting Cambodia's transition towards sustainable development and inclusive governance.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer will support the Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office by contributing to data collection and analysis for UN programming focused on peacebuilding, social inclusion, and human rights. Key tasks include monitoring political, social, and human rights developments and promoting a human rights-based approach to development. The role involves mapping and maintaining a database of national stakeholders (government, civil society, development partners) involved in peace, inclusion, and human rights initiatives. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in organizing and coordinating dialogues and engagements with these stakeholders, contribute to drafting reports, meeting notes, and thematic briefs, and provide administrative and logistical support for meetings and events.

Work Experience

While no specific prior experience is required, a demonstrated interest or experience in human rights, inclusive social development, and civil society engagement is beneficial. Experience in drafting reports and taking meeting minutes is also advantageous. The role values experience working with diverse national stakeholders and coordinating activities in multicultural environments. Basic research, analytical skills, data collection/analysis, and proficiency in office computer programs are essential.
