Air Operations Assistant
Organizational Context
MONUSCO, established in 1999, supports the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo in protecting civilians and stabilizing the nation. Its mandate includes reducing threats from armed groups, combating violence, and fostering functional state institutions. The mission aims to improve understanding of human rights violations and inform policy decisions for security force vetting and operational planning.
Job Purpose
The Air Operations Assistant will support the MONUSCO Aviation Section in Entebbe, Uganda, to ensure the efficient coordination of air operations. This role involves assisting with flight scheduling, maintaining accurate records, and liaising with aircrew and field offices. The incumbent will ensure strict adherence to UN aviation procedures and standards, contributing to the safe and effective logistical support for the mission's activities in a complex operating environment.
Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate air transportation activities in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), UN directives, aviation manuals, and international standards. Arrange special flights including CASEVAC/MEDEVAC and VIP transport. Participate in search and rescue operations as needed. Review and coordinate daily flight schedules and air support requirements. Conduct aviation risk analysis and implement mitigation measures. Ensure cost-effectiveness in airframe allocation. Liaise with various UN units, government, and non-governmental organizations on aviation matters. Develop and implement SOPs for aviation processes. Monitor and maintain current reference documents for aircrew. Prepare operational plans, performance reports, and audit responses. Analyze aviation safety reports to identify corrective actions and inform management. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in the aviation industry, with a minimum of 3 years in direct air transport operations. Experience with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards is mandatory. Certification and experience in flight operations management and scheduling are highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is also required.
