Organizational Context
MONUSCO, established in 1999 under the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, supports the DRC government in protecting civilians and stabilizing the nation. Its mandate includes reducing threats from armed groups, combating sexual and gender-based violence, and fostering functional state institutions. The mission also aims to improve understanding of human rights violations and inform policy decisions regarding security forces and operations.
Job Purpose
The Information Systems Assistant will support the Communication Center (ComCEN) and the ICT Service Management within MONUSCO. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and secure transmission and reception of all official communications, including cables and faxes. The incumbent will be responsible for logging, archiving, and maintaining communication equipment, ensuring prompt handling of traffic, and assisting with switchboard operations during emergencies. A key aspect of the role involves maintaining the confidentiality of all correspondence and contributing to the overall efficiency of the mission's communication infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Communication Center Supervisor and Chief ICT Service Management, the Information Systems Assistant is responsible for managing all outgoing and incoming cable/fax traffic, including code traffic. Duties include logging and archiving correspondence, ensuring timely communication handling, and promptly addressing any difficulties. The role requires maintaining all communication equipment in full working order and keeping records of telephone/facsimile calls. The assistant will also support switchboard operations in emergencies and maintain the secrecy and confidentiality of all correspondence. Additionally, the position involves capacity development through coaching and mentoring national staff and performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, with 5 years of relevant experience preferred. Proficiency in Windows programs, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, is essential. Experience with computers for at least 5 years is mandatory. Previous experience with radio communications equipment is desirable. A valid driving license and fluency in written and spoken English are required; knowledge of French is an advantage.
