Design Research Analysis Support for UNDP
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), established in 1965, is a global network dedicated to poverty eradication, reducing inequalities, and building resilience. The Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) serves as UNDP's knowledge and advisory center for the Europe and Central Asia region. UNDP is adopting a portfolio approach to support governments and partners in addressing systemic challenges and driving system transformation, with initiatives like the Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) focusing on complex urban challenges.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports the Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) initiative within UNDP's Eurasia region, focusing on the discovery phase of the portfolio approach. The role involves assisting with design research and community listening processes in selected Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia). The objective is to gather insights and data to inform diverse, coherent interventions and provide development intelligence for decision-making, contributing to system transformation and addressing urban challenges faced by mayors and cities.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will support design research and community listening by reviewing and analyzing qualitative data from 2-4 cities, with 25-40 interview transcripts per city. Key tasks include synthesizing data to identify patterns in stakeholder needs, challenges, and opportunities related to urban transformation. The volunteer will create reports summarizing findings and insights for individual cities (approx. 10 slides) and a cross-city overview (1-2 slides). Additionally, support will be provided for producing visual representations of the data, process, and research findings (1 slide).
Work Experience
Previous experience in working with qualitative data and design research is essential. Experience with local authorities or civil society organizations on urban issues, previous experience in the Eurasia region, and some exposure to UN development work are considered advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual collaborative applications like Miro is needed; Canva and other visualization tools are a plus.
Skills
Proficiency in qualitative data analysis and design research. Strong analytical and synthesis skills. Ability to create clear and concise reports and visual representations. Competence in Microsoft Office suite and virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Miro). Experience with visualization tools (e.g., Canva) is desirable. Working knowledge of English is required.
