In Venezuela, following recent earthquakes, UNDP is actively supporting national response and recovery through technical assistance, damage assessments, coordination, and strategic communications to highlight progress.
Job Purpose
This role supports the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Venezuela by systematically monitoring international media coverage of its earthquake response efforts. The purpose is to enhance understanding of UNDP's institutional visibility, identify emerging narratives, and provide valuable insights for the Communications Team's strategic decision-making. Online Volunteers will contribute to building a consolidated database of English-language media coverage, which will serve as a vital resource for communications analysis, reporting, and knowledge management. The final deliverable is an organized database of media publications with key metadata, integrated with contributions from other volunteers to form a comprehensive monitoring system.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the UNDP Venezuela Communications Unit, Online Volunteers will monitor and systematize international English-language media coverage related to UNDP's earthquake response. Key duties include daily monitoring of international media for articles, features, interviews, and opinion pieces mentioning UNDP and its post-earthquake efforts in Venezuela. Volunteers will register identified publications in a provided matrix, including publication date, media outlet, link, headline, summary, and classification. They will ensure the quality and consistency of collected information and promptly report high-impact content. This role involves collaborative work with other Online Volunteers monitoring social media and Spanish-language media.
Work Experience
Required experience includes the ability to conduct efficient online research. Desirable experience encompasses strong analytical and information synthesis skills, attention to detail, good organizational skills, and basic knowledge of data management tools like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. The ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines is also important.
