Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the UN's specialized agency for health, leading global health efforts. The WHO Country Office in Tunisia supports the government in improving public health. Rabies remains a significant public health concern, necessitating enhanced community awareness and multi-sectoral collaboration. WHO is implementing a "Science and Society" survey to understand public perceptions, knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding rabies in Tunisia.
Job Purpose
This role supports the production of evidence for public health actions and risk communication strategies by collecting and analyzing community-level data on rabies. The UN Volunteer will contribute to the field implementation of the "Science and Society" survey, engage with communities, and assist in data analysis. This mission aims to strengthen community participation, public health awareness, and the One Health approach for zoonotic disease prevention and control. The assignment is supported by the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia to promote youth inclusion, particularly young people with disabilities.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the WHO Technical Officer, the UN Volunteer will support the implementation of a "Science and Society" survey on rabies perceptions, knowledge, and practices in Tunisia. Key responsibilities include: - Assisting in the preparation and organization of field activities, including logistics, planning, and tool preparation. - Supporting community data collection through interviews and surveys, and conducting awareness activities. - Facilitating community engagement and communication, building positive relationships with local stakeholders. - Contributing to data management, including entry, organization, verification, and archiving, ensuring confidentiality. - Supporting the analysis and dissemination of results by compiling information and preparing reports. - Participating in coordination meetings and monitoring activities, sharing progress and challenges. - Promoting volunteerism, community participation, and public health awareness, particularly regarding rabies prevention.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, relevant experience of up to one year in public health, social sciences, community engagement, or data collection is desirable. Experience in conducting interviews, qualitative surveys, or field data collection is a plus. Basic data management and analysis skills are advantageous. Previous work with communities or in multidisciplinary teams is also beneficial.
