In Kenya, UNDP's core objective is to eliminate poverty within the framework of sustainable development and the SDGs, with a significant emphasis on democratic governance reforms. The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) in Kenya supports community-led environmental initiatives and is nearing its terminal evaluation and closure phase, necessitating enhanced support for reporting and documentation.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) in Kenya as it approaches its terminal evaluation and closure. The primary purpose is to assist with programme implementation, grants monitoring, and reporting. The Online Volunteer will contribute by conducting technical reviews of grantee reports, ensuring their completeness, quality, and consistency with approved proposals and work plans. Additionally, the role involves supporting the review of financial reports, tracking reporting schedules, compiling and analyzing project data, and consolidating programme information for various reporting requirements, including donor reports and the terminal evaluation.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the National Coordinator and Programme Associate, the Online Volunteer will review grantee narrative reports, assessing completeness, quality, and consistency against work plans and proposals. This includes supporting the review of financial reports and documentation against budgets and reporting requirements. The role involves tracking reporting schedules and following up on outstanding reports from grantees. Responsibilities also include compiling and analyzing project data and results, and consolidating programme information for donor reporting, annual reporting, and terminal evaluation needs. Furthermore, the volunteer will support the maintenance and organization of programme databases and electronic filing systems, track project progress against workplans and indicators, and assist in data collection, verification, and documentation of programme results and lessons learned. Contributing to documenting key outcomes from workshops and meetings is also part of the role.
Work Experience
At least 3 years of relevant experience in project management, programme management, monitoring and evaluation, or grants management is desirable. Experience in reviewing project reports, analyzing programme information, and preparing summaries is beneficial. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential. Familiarity with environmental conservation or community development programmes is an advantage.
Skills
Strong report-writing, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required. The ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a virtual environment is crucial. Knowledge of grants management, monitoring and evaluation, or results-based management is desirable. Excellent communication and time management skills are necessary. Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.
