Job Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Communication and Information Programme Officer, the Associate Programme Officer provides essential professional and technical support, research, and analytical contributions. The core purpose of this assignment is to bolster the work of the Communication and Information Sector and support multi-sectoral programmatic initiatives executed from the Kinshasa Office. A key focus is to integrate a national perspective specific to the Democratic Republic of Congo into all activities. The incumbent will ensure that all programmatic efforts are aligned with UNESCO's overarching strategic frameworks, including the Medium-Term Strategy (C/4) and the approved Programme and Budget (C/5), while also contributing to global development agendas such as the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This role is vital for enhancing local capacities and ensuring the effective implementation and impact of UNESCO's communication and information programs within the DRC.
Responsibilities
The Associate Programme Officer will undertake the following responsibilities: Programme and Project Support: Contribute to the implementation of projects aligned with the Office's priorities. Participate in the development of work plans and the monitoring of activities. Support information gathering and the preparation of various documents, including concept notes, reports, and briefings. Provide logistical and administrative support for activities, meetings, and missions. Contribute to monitoring project results and drafting simple reports. Research and Knowledge Management: Conduct research and analysis, preparing data and contributions for documents, projects, proposals, and both conventional and online publications. This includes visibility and public information materials, as well as social media and website content. Ensure that knowledge management systems, websites, and information platforms are up-to-date and easily accessible to Office staff. Upload institutional memory to automated systems (e.g., SharePoint) and other platforms. Contribute to designing tools for monitoring project progress and performance, and analyze best practices and current trends to enrich the knowledge base. Partnership: Contribute to the preparation of communication materials such as brochures and digital content. Support the organization of visibility and awareness-raising activities. Assist in identifying collaboration opportunities with partners. Participate in advocacy and resource mobilization efforts.
Work Experience
A minimum of one month of general experience is required, with at least one year of relevant professional experience. This includes the ability to contribute to analyses and support work related to public policies. Candidates should have experience in supporting the preparation and implementation of national and/or sub-regional projects in communication, journalism, and information sciences. Experience in advocacy, resource mobilization, and partnership development is also essential.
